CRA SCAM

September 5, 2017

Relax, the Canada Revenue Agency is not the perpetrator of the scam.

There is a perennial phishing scam that pops up every year – it seems to be two pronged on one hand collecting data, confirming email addresses are working, and on the other hand they may be trying to obtain bank account information.

In any event, be assured that the CRA will not reach out to you through email, you did not win the “tax lottery” and no one from the CRA will show up at your door to arrest you or to count the silverware.

If you are the recipient of such an email simply delete it – reporting to the RCMP fraud squad is a frustrating waste of time, they are under-resourced to deal with such day to day scams.
My grandmother used to say “believe half of what you see and none of what you hear” – we might add “and very little of what you read on the internet”.
